Free Radicals
These highly reactive substances combine with other molecules in the body. Free radicals are high energy chemical substances looking for stable molecules to combine with. Free radicals are unstable molecules produced by normal metabolism as well as other external influences such as pollution, sunlight, tobacco smoke and fried foods. Fried food depends hugely on the oil you cook it with and whether its high quality meat. For example, budget sausages are completely different to premium sausages. They're like chalk and cheese, I developed a stomach ulcer because of cheap, scrappy leftover pieces of poor meat, being used to form the sausage. As you can see from the link above the variations on sausages is quite profound.Free radicals are extremely powerful, people take them for granted. The statistics for people dying from generic painkillers such as aspirin (which is a cat killer), paracetamol, even ibuprofen, worse still anti-biotics, which can contain all sorts of allergic reactions in your system.
It is now becoming evident that excess free radical reactions are responsible for such diverse physiological processes as inflamation, ageing, drug induced damage, degenerative arthritis, alterations in immunity and cardiovascular disease.
Antioxidants
An antioxidant is a molecule capable of slowing or preventing the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons from a substance to an oxidising agent. Oxidation reactions can produce free radicals, which start chain reactions that damage cells. Antioxidants terminate these chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves.Antioxidant Supplements
